Meet Our Intentional Interim Pastor

An intentional interim minister has been selected and he will begin leading services on Sunday, December 12, 2021 – come meet Pastor John!

Pastor John Van Haneghan is a native of Rochester NY.

He attended the State University of New York Colleges of Oswego and Brockport, graduating in 1977 with a BA in History and a Minor in Religion.

He attended Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary from 1980 to 1984 and graduated with a MDiv degree, after which he was ordained in 1984 by the Presbytery of Genesee Valley (PCUSA). He transitioned to the ELCA in 1996.

Pastor John has served Presbyterian churches in both the United States and Canada, one community church, and  ELCA churches in the Buffalo NY area, Syracuse NY, Phillipsburg NJ, and Fairbanks AK.

He took intentional interim training from the Interim Ministry Network in 2017 and 2018.

Since 2019, he has served as an intentional interim pastor at St. Martin’s in Austin and most recently at Lord of Life Lutheran in The Woodlands.

During his time in the ELCA, he has served as Dean of three different synods.

He has been married to his wife Pamela for 45 years and they have two adult children, Dr. Mary Van Haneghan who resides in Caldwell Texas and John James Van Hanegahn who resides in the Buffalo NY area.

They have been blessed with one 2-year-old grandson, Henry.

Pastor John, as he likes to be called, enjoys singing, listening to music, playing the piano and organ by ear, watching TV murder mysteries, working out at a local gym, and of course playing and spending time with his grandson Henry.
