Join Pastor John for The Tuesday Morning Adult Bible Study

Join Pastor John Van Haneghan for the Tuesday Morning Adult Bible Study this Fall as he leads the group in the study and discussion of the epistle of James, the book of Jonah, and the letters of John each Tuesday.
This fall when Tuesday Morning Adult Bible Study begins on September 12th, we will be studying three smaller books of the Bible, the epistle of James, the book of Jonah (Old Testament), and the letters of John.
The letter from James will be our first. While it is well known that our Martin Luther called it an “epistle of straw” because it didn’t seem to proclaim the gospel, it is an important letter, an early writing that has much to say about Christian conduct and seems to rely heavily on Jesus’ words in the sermon on the mount. When we study James, I think we will find his observations to be very applicable to today.
Next, we will tackle the short Old Testament book of Jonah. This is more than just a fish story with its window into the surprising mercy and love of God for all people amid the Old Testament that mostly proclaims Israel is God’s special people.
Finally, we will look at the three short letters of John. Again, they speak of the essentials of the faith, with an emphasis on love for God and others.
As in our last gatherings, we will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays in the Fellowship Hall and a Zoom link will be set up for those who wish to watch online.
The study of the Bible is essential in our walk with the Lord. Even as I have led many Bible studies in my thirty-nine years as a pastor, I find new discoveries when I lead a study on a book of the Bible that I have taught before.
